Kew Magazine cover

WINTER ISSUE

I’ve been working with Kew this winter on their quarterly magazine. Shooting pictures of temperate trees in their 300 acre arboretum on the banks of the river Thames in London.

It’s a beautiful place to spend time and a perfect opportunity to learn more about trees. Every plant is meticulously labelled and the tree families are planted in ‘stands’ to help those interested in learning.

To fulfil the brief, I went searching for interesting tree characteristics. The attributes that help to define a tree and give it its splendour. I also looked for the type of elements that might encourage interest in the uninitiated. Trees need a wider audience.

CONES, FRUITS & SEEDS

Trees take many different forms and have radically different life styles. Seasonal behaviour is core to understanding what to expect and when to expect it.

THE PAPER WRAPPER FOR THE WINTER ISSUE

Kew plays host to the most varied collection of temperate trees in the world. It is worth making time to venture out into the depths of the arboretum when you next visit.
